Italy - Protests against budget proposal - November 30, 2025
Unions have announced a wave of protests in response to the Government’s proposed 2026 budget. On 25 November, a national mobilisation was scheduled with demonstrations outside key Government offices, particularly focusing on the rights of public sector workers. This action is co-organised by CGIL and UILPA and targets issues such as inadequate staffing, weak collective bargaining, and limited funding for public administration. In addition, the UIL National Executive approved organising a national demonstration in Rome on 29 November to press for substantial changes to the economic package approved by the Government. The demonstration seeks reforms in pensions, healthcare and taxation, calling for a more equitable redistribution of wealth. Following that, on 12 December, CGIL is calling a general strike, citing concerns over stagnant wages, rising pension age, weakening of public services, and increased military spending associated with the 2026 Government budget.
