The approximately 2.5 million employees are to receive wage increases in two stages: starting in April 2025, wages are to increase by 3% (at least € 110), and by a further 2.8% starting in May 2026. In addition, the annual bonus is to increase starting in 2026, and employees outside of hospitals and nursing homes will be able to convert part of this into additional days off. The collective agreement should have a term of 27 months. The unions are critical of the proposed option to voluntarily increase weekly working hours to up to 42 hours. Originally, unions ver.di and the dbb Beamtenbund (German Civil Service Union) had demanded an 8% salary increase over a period of 12 months and at least three additional days off – the employers' side rejected this as unaffordable. The collective bargaining parties will negotiate the arbitration recommendation on 5 April 2025.
