Trade unions CGT and Sud have called for a strike and demonstration in response to sweeping reductions in operational budgets and job cuts. The protest follows months of action by library workers, who have been mobilising since December against measures that unions say are dismantling public services. The introduction of PROXIMA, a restructuring plan launched in January 2024, has accelerated existing austerity measures, including a freeze on recruitment, the dismissal of most contract workers, and the non-replacement of retirees.
