France - Better protection for local workers - December 31, 2025
Trade unions, including CGT, CFDT, FO, UNSA, FSU and others, welcomed new national legislation strengthening social protection for local government workers, marking a major step forward for workers’ rights in the public sector. The law establishes a clear legal framework for supplementary protection, which is a social safety net that covers risks linked to incapacity, invalidity and death. The new legislation makes employer participation compulsory, ensuring that all local government workers benefit from collective coverage rather than relying on individual contracts.
