Belgium - A cap on wage indexation - December 31, 2025
The Government reached an agreement on the budget for the period 2025–2029. One of the key points of this agreement is the adjustment of the way indexation will be applied in the years 2026 and 2028. In 2027, nothing changes and the current system would be reinstated. However, everything is still uncertain and remains part of further negotiations within the Government. From 2026, wage indexation will be capped at € 4,000 gross, limiting full indexation for higher salaries. Wages above € 4.000 will no longer be fully indexed, but only for a maximum equal to the difference between the actual index figure (above 2%) and that 2% (index threshold amount).
