Germany - Agreements for wood and plastic workers - February 29, 2024
In the collective bargaining round for the wood and plastics processing industry, the union IG Metall has achieved results in 8 out of 11 collective bargaining areas. From autumn 2024, wages and salaries will rise by 5%, and by a further 3% next summer. The agreement also includes inflation compensation bonuses of up to € 2,300 net in 2024. The training allowances increase equally at the start of training. The collective agreements have a term of 23 months and can be terminated for the first time on 31 October 2025. Negotiations in Saxony, however, are at a standstill. The employers want to make significant cuts even though wages and salaries in Saxony are already 14% lower than, for instance, in the neighboring federal state Saxony-Anhalt. Last week, employees increased the pressure with warning strikes in Saxony. A new negotiation date has not yet been set.
