This means an increase of around 9% for the lowest paid workers and about 4% for most of the workforce. The unions had initially demanded an increase of 12.7% and have made clear that they are already looking to the negotiations in 2024 to deliver better pay for local government workers. The agreement covers workers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. In Scotland, UNISON is consulting over an improved offer from the employers that would provide a minimum increase of £ 2,006 (€ 2,298) for those on the Scottish local government living wage, and a minimum of £ 1,929 (€ 2,210) for all those above that rate backdated to 1 April 2023 based on a 37-hour week.

Read on: in English… Read on: in English (2)… Read on: in English (3)…

For more information, please contact Paul de Beer or Oana Ciuca, De Burcht (Scientific Bureau for the Dutch Trade Union Movement) p.t.debeer@uva.nl or the Head of communications at the ETUI, Mehmet Koksal mkoksal@etui.org.
