Romania - Union action delivers wins in health and social care - June 30, 2023

Health union Sanitas negotiated with the government to deliver progress on jobs and pay and conditions in health and social care. The union was building up for industrial action. So far the government has conceded on several issues including the unblocking of 14,000 positions in the health system; approval of an emergency ordinance covering increases for all basic salaries for specific groups of workers in health and social care; eliminating inequities and repositioning nurses in the pay structure; funding holiday vouchers for all employees in the health system; finalising negotiations for a new sector collective agreement in health care; and starting negotiations for a collective agreement in social care where there has not been a sector agreement for 15 years.
