IG Metall is demanding a 8.5% wage increase for employees in the iron and steel industry in north-western and eastern Germany over a period of 12 months, as well as a 32-hour working week without wage losses. In addition, the collective agreements on partial retirement, the use of service contracts and job security are to be extended. In the first round of negotiations, the employers had offered a pay increase of 3.1 percent for 15 months. Far too little, from the union's point of view.
