Because of the protest backed by the three main unions, public services were affected throughout the country, especially rail and subway systems in and around the capital and Brussels international airport. The three trade union confederations are calling for a revision of the salary law that restricts the unions’ scope to negotiate and they want to retain the pay indexation system which is under threat from the employers.
