The union argued that the current number of 35,000 is inadequate, with many firefighters working double shifts, longer hours and more overtime. Fp Cgil said that excessive workloads leave workers no time for training. It also stressed that recruitment is crucial to reducing the average age of the workforce (currently 47) and also that investment in vehicles and equipment is urgently needed.
