The reports aim to shed light on this overlooked groups by mapping out the scale and nature of this work. There are an estimated 865,000 agency workers in the UK today, a number that has increased since 2011 by 30%. Agency workers are more likely to be younger and less qualified than the overall workforce. In 2016, agency workers were paid on average £2.57 an hour less their non-agency counterparts. Workers on zero-hours contracts lose an estimated £1,000 a year compared with employees doing the same work. The Resolution Foundation said all workers who find themselves without a permanent, full-time role lose out in terms of wages, but people hired on zero-hours contracts suffer the biggest financial punishment.

English: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/dec/30/zero-hours-workers ...

http://www.resolutionfoundation.org/media/blog/a-typical-year/

http://www.resolutionfoundation.org/app/uploads/2016/12/Secret-Agents.pdf

For more information, please contact the editor Jan Cremers, Amsterdam Institute for Advanced Labour Studies (AIAS) cbn-aias@uva.nl or the communications officer at the ETUI, Willy De Backer wdebacker@etui.org.
