However, soon after an agreement could be reached. Union officials had blamed SAS for a deadlock in the bargaining negotiations, claiming they had dropped many of their initial demands and that they merely were fighting to uphold a ‘defensible’ level of security. The pilots have been calling for pay hikes and more weekends off that SAS management claims will raise costs by 25 percent. In a joint statement the trade unions said that the agreement was good enough to recommend it to the members.
