The municipal elections took place in the 295 municipalities on April 9. As a clear majority of Finns in working life are organised in trade unions, at least a couple of thousand of the new councillors are members of the unions. Those elected from among the unions belonging to SAK and STTK trade union confederations were mostly Social Democrats.
