The Technical, Electrical and Engineering Union (TEEU) and employer organisations have been in conflict over wage developments in the electricity sector, with a threat of a national strike looming since weeks. The two parties have met under the mediation of the Labour Relations Commission and representatives have agreed to proposals that would lead to the withdrawal of both the employer demand for a 10% pay cut and the union demand for a 4.9% pay claim, pending new legislation on the matter. The TEEU has said that if members of the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) and the Association of Electrical Contractors Ireland, (AECI) agree to the proposals, the strike notice will be withdrawn.
