Air Lingus and trade unions came into conflict after unions refused to lower crewing levels on transatlantic flights from Shannon, whereupon the airline threatened to outsource the jobs. After talks with the LRC the parties agreed to keep operating the flights with direct hire employees. The initial flights, from 1 January 2014, will be operated by a crew of five.
