IBEC Director Brendan McGinty said the country\r\ncannot afford what he termed ‘legacy arrangements', adding that the UK\r\nabolished similar structures as far back as 1993. SIPTU union Divisional Organiser\r\nJohn King criticised IBEC’s trip to Europe, stating: “IBEC should be engaging\r\nwith the social partners and Irish government rather than travelling to\r\nBrussels to ask the European Commission to intervene in a process in which it\r\nhas no competence.
