Pay survey for platform workers in Latin America

About the project

WageIndicator Foundation and the platform app Nippy engage in a survey of platform workers across five countries in Latin America (Argentina, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Uruguay).

The survey is designed by WageIndicator and distributed via Nippy’s platform, which currently has over 500,000 registered users across all markets. As an Argentine startup, Nippy offers an infrastructure that connects freelancers, platforms, and organizations through technology. Workers can access a range of services and benefits, including insurance and financial tools.

Objectives

The objectives of the project are as follows:
Check
Capture the earnings, costs, and waiting time of the platform workers in the delivery and taxi sectors
Check
Collect up-to-date information across these markets and add a layer of context, understanding not just what workers do, but the broader picture of their income, working conditions, and challenges
Check
Contribute to a larger conversation about gig worker rights in Latin America and build on the findings to strengthen a data-driven debate with platform partners and policymakers in the region.

Role of WageIndicator

WageIndicator Foundation leads the design of a survey to capture the working conditions and earnings of app-based food delivery and ride-hailing workers in five Latin American countries and prepare the survey to be rolled out by the partner. Upon data collection, the team will engage in analysing the data and presenting the findings in a report which will be published on this project page to contribute to a better informed debate.
