Labour Market Information System - India

Good careers, skills training, and policy decisions start with reliable facts. LMIS-India tracks jobs in India and skills, considering both the demand and the supply sides of the labour market to enhance data-driven decisions by workers, jobseekers, employers, skilling institutions, policymakers, and researchers.

One dashboard – decoding India’s jobs, skills and pay

The Labour Market Information System (LMIS) - India is an open-access, quarterly updated dashboard designed to provide comprehensive labour market data for all states across India. The dashboard will house detailed labour force data broken down by state, industry, occupation, skill level, wages, and gender, wherever possible. Users will also be able to access and compare wage data, such as advertised salaries and whether these fall within the minimum wage and living wage range. They will be able to find answers to questions such as:
Check
Where are jobs concentrated, by state and district?
Check
Which industries are hiring, by state and district?
Check
Which skills and qualifications are employers asking for?
Check
What share of jobs state a preference for men or women?
Check
What percentage of vacancies disclose a wage?
Check
What share of jobs pay below a living wage?

Our Approach

The LMIS draws on WageIndicator's two decades of work on collecting and analysing labour market data, including pay, skills, and working conditions in India and worldwide. LMIS-India maps data from nationally representative surveys such as the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) together with information from job boards and WageIndicator databases on salaries, minimum wages, and living wages. Insights are presented at the state or district level. The dashboard aims to provide data disaggregated by geography, gender, industry, and occupation. It is designed as a public good.

Join the launch!

The LMIS India prototype dashboard will be launched on 1 December 2026 at the 2nd International Conference: Work, Wages and Workforce at FLAME University, Pune, India. Register here to attend the conference.
